Exposition "Worn" - Treasured clothing from 1640 to 1930

Exposition "Worn" - Treasured clothing from 1640 to 1930

In this intimate fashion presentation, 24 worn, altered and reused garments take centre stage. Signs of wear, repair and craftsmanship tell their story: from 17th-century embroidered mules to a dress worn for generations by the Six family.

WORN shows how clothing can lead a life of its own. In this presentation, you discover worn, repaired and altered pieces from the collection, dating from 1640 to 1930. Look closely and you’ll see traces of use: mending, soft wear and even sweat. Each detail reveals how garments were cherished and worn again across generations.

Special Collections

Every 12 months, the Rijksmuseum presents a new display in the Special Collections galleries of objects from its large and varied costume collection. The display for WORN is designed by the French architectural firm Wilmotte & Associés.
