FOR TODAY AND FOR TOMORROWEYES ON TALENTS Member DESIGN FOR GOODKosuke ArakiEyes on Talents member, Japanese designer and artisan Kosuke Araki, is participating in the fourth edition of Homo Faber, which is currently taking place on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice, from September 1 to 30, 2026. Titled “An Island of Light” and under the artistic direction of British artist and designer Es Devlin, this year’s edition explores the radiant relationship between light, materials, and the human hand. Among hundreds of international craft artists, Kosuke Araki is presenting a new work titled “Life Vessel.” This vessel was handcrafted from food waste that was ground into a powder and mixed with urushi, or Japanese lacquer. This material, derived from the inedible parts of crops—such as peels, stems, leaves, roots, and rinds—as well as animal bones, was shaped and then left to harden. Successive layers of lacquer were then applied to finish and refine the surface. Inspired by the ancestral role of vessels in preserving and transporting food, water, and flowers, this work is a symbol of life, created from the very elements that sustain it.Image: Kosuke Araki, Life Vessel, 2025. © Kosuke Araki Homo Faber 2026 – An Island of Light.Designing a better WORLD1Alberto Cavalli on Curating Craft at Homo Faber 2026 in Venice The Executive Director of Homo Faber shares highlights from its upcoming Venice edition and its next chapter in America.Read more on Whitewall2Kering Invites 10 Designers to Reimagine Sustainable Materials Nestled inside the Kering headquarters in Milan, the Material Innovation Lab (MIL) houses more than 8,000 samples of sustainable materials from over 600 manufacturers and innovators. Read more on Capc Musée d’art contemporain de Bordeaux Hire Your Future!Eyes on Talents is the international Talent Place that connects influential brands to talent.
