For 15 days, Olivier Saillard takes over the exhibition spaces to tell a story of fashion in motion through The Living Museum of Fashion: a program of exhibitions, installations, performances, and talks—entirely new—imagined and conceived especially for the Fondation Cartier at the Palais Royal.
Silent Mannequins – 20 & 21 March at 9 pm
In shop windows and on the pedestals of fashion exhibitions, mannequins made of wood or cardboard, plastic or metal attempt to substitute for the body and the movements they arrest, frozen in their expressions. The abstract reduction of a hanger—the vestige of a neck and cold shoulders—the naturalism of a 1930s mannequin head, or the dressmaker’s bust without arms or face, tell a strange history of the silhouette from the nineteenth century onward.
