The Wedding Dress, Highlight of the Haute Couture Fashion Show

By Anne Zazzo, Chief Heritage Curator, Musée Carnavalet

A dress for a day, or for a lifetime, the wedding dress is a symbol that reflects both the bride's desires, the implicit conventions of society, and the imagination of designers. Today, there is no fashion show without a wedding dress, its arrival on the runway being the climax of this highly coded event. Since when has this tradition been established in haute couture? Why is the bride in white, and has she always been? What are its other colors and its range?

In the auditorium, free access within the limit of available seats. The conference starts at 12:30 PM, doors open at 12:00 PM.
