Following the success of last fall's Vestologie exhibition, Printemps is renewing its cultural event for the new season, highlighting another essential item in any wardrobe: the bag.
The bag has been a unique artifact in the history of humanity for its utilitarian, symbolic and aesthetic value. It has reflected rituals and customs of society, and it has endured various ages and fashions. If compared to other accessories such as fans, muffs, parasols, gloves and hats, bags have resisted the passage of time constantly morphing their nature. In the last years, the bag has characterized a new era for the fashion industry becoming one the most profitable items but also one of the most counterfeited.
The Sac, Sac, Sac. More Than a Bag exhibition reveals the evolving nature of this polyvalent item, a sacred myth in our hyper-modern society. Following the object’s multifaceted nature, this exhibition is interdisciplinary, bringing together architecture, sculpture, the decorative arts, textiles and fashion.
Le Printemps invites you to discover the social and cultural history of the bag and its technical attributes.
Visitors can explore this through the prism of historical and contemporary pieces that have been loaned by fashion and luxury brands’ archives, private collectors, the ESMOD study collection and Le Printemps’ archives.
The ‘A BAG FOR TOMORROW’ section showcases a selection of ten prototype bags designed by students from the 2025 Bachelor's and Master's Fashion Design programmes at ESMOD Paris.
